Escape Music (2010)
Swedish/Hungarian five piece who since forming in
2004 have taken the domestic and international hard rock scenes by
storm. They’ve gained critical acclaim in all of the best melodic hard
rock magazines across the world, so Escape Music scooped up the group
for their latest album "Time Is Waiting For No One” - an 11 song
sojourn into the bluesy groove hard rock we’ve come to love for 40 plus
years.
"Magical Pretence” contains a
blistering Gabor Mirkovics bass line surrounded by dual guitar fullness
that has so much in common with late 70’s Thin Lizzy and possibly a
touch of classic Y& T, Bjorn Lodin pleading to his heart’s content
with the emotional-filled lyrical landscape. At other times Hard prefer
to assault your ears from a quicker dive bomb three chord stance, such
as "Into The Fire” that could have easily fit on latter day Bon Scott -
AC/DC efforts.
When the group take a chance
to go into softer or slower terrain, they aren’t afraid to incorporate
slightly southern rock or steel guitar-like motifs, the best
representation being "The Pace and The Flow” which has that acoustic
underbelly while turning up the energy for the chorus and instrumental
break. The fact that Bjorn also plays guitar gives Hard so many
opportunities to add layers of rhythms and little subtle nuances to the
arrangements, working to great advantage with the faster "My Kind Of
Woman,” featuring again a slower, Molly Hatchet meets the jig double
solo.
"Time Is Waiting For No One” also has
more of a live tone to its production, giving these songs instant legs
to the stage. Classic hard rock fans need Hard in their permanent
discography, and I think they have enough talent, spirit and
songwriting ability to appeal to a wide variety of music connoisseurs.
