Как многие другие лос-анжелесские металлические команды середины 80-х "Lizzy Borden" начала свою карьеру с появления на сборнике "Metal Massacre". Свое название группа получила в честь женщины-убийцы, расправлявшейся со своими жертвами с помощью топора. Основателем и фронтменом банды стал парень, взявший себе такое же имя, Лиззи Борден. За мини-альбомом последовал полноформатник "Love you to pieces". На нем уже выкристаллизовался стиль "Lizzy Borden" – мелодичный хэви-метал с явным влиянием "Iron Maiden" и "Judas priest". После выпуска "Love you to pieces" из группы ушел Тони Матузак, уступивший место Алексу Нельсону. Новый гитарист дебютировал на концертном альбоме "The murderess metal roadshow", записанного в пятницу, 13 декабря 1985 года. Так, на диске "Visual lies", записанным с продюсером Максом Норманом, Джина Аллена сменил Джо Холмс, а на альбоме 1989 года "Master of disguise" присутствовали гитаристы Дэвид Майкл Филипс и Ронни Джуд. From 1985 until 1989 the melodic metal band Lizzy Borden released a couple of albums and then split up. When Lizzy was arrested in Germany with an axe in his suitcase a few years ago, this was a possible sign that the band rejoined. Indeed they played the Wacken Festival in 1999 and recorded a new album for Metal Blade called "Deal with the devil". A bad telephone connection with the USA makes it hard to do an interview but by talking very loud we got the answers on our questions though.

Before we start talking about your new album "Deal with the devil", I’d like to know why you split up in the early nineties? I had the feeling that you sounded a bit tired on the last album before the split.

We released our "Master of disguise" album back in 1989. Just after the release our label Metal Blade got problems with another label they were affliliated with. Due to lawsuits etcetera we couldn’t record another album and also our entire back cataloque was frozen. I was so fed up with it all that I joined another band and had lots of fun. The split had nothing to do with the music itself. "Master of disguise" is one of my all time favourites. It’s not as heavy as the other albums but it was a great chance for me to to show that I could do such a full production with a 40 piece orchestra etcetera. I wasn’t tired at that time, I was really happy.

A few years ago you rejoined. How did that happen? Did you specifically asked your former band members Alex Nelson and Joey Scott to join to get the old days going?

We started the band again in 1998 when Metal Blade kept asking us to do another album. We liked the idea and started again. Alex Nelson played on one album in 1986 and did the "Master of disguise" tour. He and the other band members (Marten Andersen on bass and Joey Scott on drums) played with me until 1992. I don’t see the album as a reunion; as far as I’m concerned we just continu what we left in 1992.

The new album is called "Deal with the devil" and came out early October. Please decribe the album in your own words? Are all songs written recently?

Well, it is our new album containing 11 real heavy metal songs, that every heavy metal lover should like. It sounds a lot heavier than the other albums we did in the eighties. I wrote all the songs myself. Two songs were written in the early nineties but were re-written for this album. One song was written during the pre-production and the other songs were written in varied periodes of time.

I can’t remember that Lizzy Borden ever played Europe except for the 1999 Wacken Festival. Will you tour Europe for this album? And what are your other future plans?

We did play Europe once, supporting Manowar in Germany in 1989. We definately are going to tour for the "Deal with the devil" album. There are no concrete plans yet but we are thinking of a metal event with one or two other bands. No, it will not be as big as the yearly Ozzfest tour. And no, it will not be like the huge "Murderess metal road show" althought we will take over some elements from that show. We mapped out the follow 6 years already. I have got my own studio so the sky is the limit. I already wrote some songs for the next album and furthermore our entire back catalogue will be re-issued. All albums will have multi-media tracks as a bonus, some songs are remastered and maybe will have new booklets and covers. Maybe we will add some unreleased songs as well. We haven’t got many of those songs because we recorded 4 albums in 14 months in the eighties. Our schedule was recording-touring-recording-touring etecetera and we didn’t have much time to record more songs than needed.// http://www.klokradio.nl/
