Biography:
The violence began in March of 2005 when Guitarist Scott Edgar (Misery), Bassist Adam Keleher and Drummer Chris Morse began jamming together.

By June they had completed enough material to warrant a vokillist. From a chance meeting at a Misery gig, Scott invited Mike Yee (Obfuscate Mass) to a rehearsal. At that first jam the song ‘The Doomsayer’ was born and they knew the band had found its’ voice. Six weeks later it was time to document the bands’ progress and under the moniker of The Dead.

The Dead recorded the 4 track ‘DEMO 1’ with Andrew “Kava-Time” Meaks. Two tracks from the Demo have since been released by Obsidian Records on the limited edition Armoured Assassin blood splattered 7” vinyl. With their unique style of hook-laden Death Metal getting rave reviews in the Death metal underground, The Dead played their first show on December 23rd 2005 to overwhelming response and have consistently played to capacity crowds with bands such as Gospel of the Horns, Psycroptic, Astriaal, Stargazer and soon death metal legends Obituary.

Out of all the emerging death metal bands today who strive to revolutionize the genre, here comes The Dead from Australia who still opts to do death metal as it was (or almost) on its birth.

The band's latest EP "Nocturnal Funeral" brings you a smooth combination of classic and semi-technical death metal that's raw and simple but exactly as death metal should be. All six tracks of the record wouldn't bring about any complications since they are all of plain compositions in moderate speed. There are no chiding vocals - just the monstrous recital of a from-the-grave voice. The chords and beats are both simple and repetitious, almost too classic for the present setting but it's in its simplicity that an ear for death metal may find beauty.

Tracks 1 and 2 seem just one and the same, but perhaps, that's why track 3 comes in with its acoustic intro to change the mood a bit but only to return to the usual theme of the band. Track 6 is also very interesting with the electronic guitar fade-in that only leads to the exposition of this final track in a very old school style plus some apparent double-pedals kicking in.

Well, the band name itself, as simple as "The Dead", sounds old school enough, but the cover art of "Nocturnal Funeral", as you can see, is just as grotesque as everything else you might be headbanging to nowadays.
