The band consists mostly of musicians who have, for several years, been very active in the "Metal-scene". Winter of Sin's current line-up features (ex-) members of bands like, among others, Immortalized, Cantara, Katafalk, Obtuse, Pooier666 and As It Burns, bands with a lot of live experience, both on Dutch and international stages.

History:

Winter of Sin was formed in early 1998 by R, C and D. About one year later, in 1999, the band released its first demo 'Hailstorm'. W and G had at that time already joined the band, as did Matthijs on drums. Hailstorm contained highly melodic black metal songs, combined with some more doomy influences. Although we were very satisfied with the songs on Hailstorm, some problems arose during mixing. The result was that the overall production of Hailstorm was not as we had anticipated. Nonetheless, Hailstorm received some very positive reviews.

In 2001, the band recorded its second demo 'Obscura'. The production of Obscura was far better than the previous album. At the time Obscura was recorded, the band had also changed its musical style a little bit. Although the album still contained fast melodic black metal songs, Obscura also had a definite doom feeling, which was reflected especially in a couple of almost prototypical doom metal songs. Obscura received very positive reviews, and was even elected demo of the month in the German Metal Hammer. Although it did for a while look like a record deal was at hand shortly after the release of Obscura, things didn't quite work out as we had hoped.

A short while later, Matthijs decided to leave the band, partly due to musical differences, and M joined the band on drums. M, a very talented and fast drummer, fitted very well within the band, as the musical direction of Winter of Sin was getting more and more fast and complicated.

In 2005, Winter of Sin recorded the full length album 'Woest', again, like Obscura, at Berthus Westerhuis' studio. After a short while, CCP records offered to release Woest and signed Winter of Sin for two additional albums. Woest was officially released in 2006 and has so far received mostly positive reviews in the various zines. The songs on Woest are much more mature than the songs on the previous releases. Moreover, Woest is much less doomy and much more 'black' than the previous releases.

Meanwhile, several songs for the upcoming album have been written. These new songs will prove to be far more extreme and technical than the previous ones. We are currently planning on recording these songs next winter, and hope that the new record will be available somewhere in 2007. More news will be posted in the News section.
