Romania Sympho Black Metal Discography Shadows EP, 2000 Current line-up Gabi Barani (Code Red (Rou), Putrefaction (Rou), Another Sad, Electton, Defect) Mircea Damian Radu Ilies (Tenebre (Rou), Putrefaction (Rou)) Laurentiu Norman (Another Sad, Killers Legion, Dama cu Camelii, As Heaven Ends) www.metal-archives.com/ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Indian Fall was formed in 1997, in Brasov and was composed at the time being by Adrian Nagy (bass), Mircea Damian (drums), Adrian Vitanescu (quitar) and Adina Lica (keyboards). For a year, the band looked her identity on the meeting point of progressive metal, gothic and black and had a series of important apparitions at Samus Rock and at the Rock Constellation Festival (Ramnicu Valcea, winter of 1998) with God, Dies Irae, Kogaion, Tueton and Grimegod. It is here where Adrian Vitanescu wins the award for the best guitar player. In this period, Andrei Calmuc and Radu Ilies (ex-Tenebre members) join in to realize the voice and drums parts. After these events, follows a series of concerts at the Rock Chance Fest Costinesti and at the concert dedicated to the eclipse in Ramnicu Valcea (summer of 1999) as well as an editing of their first demo " Counting the Emptiness”. With its release, the band suffers a new stylistic change due to the coming of the keyboard player Mircea Fulea, who is going to form the sound of Indian Fall, based on ample and sensitive orchestrations. In 2000, the band recorded the second demo " Shadows” that is rather successful at the underground public. Next to a new drummer Gabi Barani (ex-Another Sad member), Indian Fall wins the greatest prize at the Top T Festival, Buzau that gets them a contract with PromusicProd. The label gives them promotional priority and the possibility to edit their first CD. In 2001, Indian Fall participates again at the Top T Festival. We must mention that Adrian Vitanescu and Andrei Calmuc are also playing in an old death metal project founded in the early’90s, named Putrefaction. This project has a very well done demo but insufficiently promoted. Prepared in May-September, Pathfinder is recorded in November 2001 in the Glas Transilvan Studio, having one of the best productions from an autochthon band. The cover, a painting of the Russian author Aiwazovski, is described by the band as the symbol of the album, a mixture between beauty and destruction, "a noble disaster” (Adrian Nagy). The combination of black, the abundant keyboard parts and the elements from various musical arias, without being especially innovative, manages to create a specific mood of the album, which alternates between the creative tensions and the ecstatic moments of extreme metal. Some listeners expressed their reservations over the numerous instrumental insertions but in my case, these parts represent the heart of the album, the original sound of Indian Fall. Pathfinder is well received in Romania and is promoted outside, also, in Italy, Germany, England, Japan, France, Spain, Canada, Poland, Switzerland, Hungary, so the band gets feedbacks (comments and interviews) and from foreign magazines. However, this seems to be only the first step. In the last two years, the band members have been busy finishing their musical studies, but in the same time, preparing new tracks and working at the technique chapter. A first sample of their metallic efforts is the EP " Counting the Emptiness”, a material based on the old demo but enriched with new ideas…. a CD, which marks the evolution of Indian Fall but keeping the main coordinates of melody and aggression.
